Royal Challengers Bangalore vs UP Warriorz, WPL 2024: RCB win by 2 runs

Royal Challengers Bangalore faced off against UP Warriorz in a thrilling encounter during the inaugural match of the 2024 Women’s Premier League (WPL) at Bangalore’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium. In a nail-biting finish that kept spectators on the edge of their seats until the final ball, Royal Challengers Bangalore clinched victory by a slender margin of two runs.

The standout performer of the match was Sobhana Asha of RCB, whose remarkable bowling prowess saw her secure five crucial wickets, including a pivotal three-wicket haul in the 17th over, effectively derailing UP Warriorz’s momentum.

The electrifying atmosphere of a packed stadium witnessed yet another last-ball finish, reminiscent of the earlier clash where Mumbai Indians emerged victorious against the Delhi Capitals.

UP Warriorz, in pursuit of a target of 158 runs, found themselves requiring 11 runs from the final nine deliveries, buoyed by a resilient partnership between Grace Harris (38) and Shweta Sehrawat (31). However, despite the valiant efforts that propelled the team from 49/3 to 125/4, UP ultimately faltered, with Poonam Khemnar’s spirited cameo falling just short of the mark.

Earlier in the innings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, after a shaky start that saw them at 54/3, rallied thanks to the stellar contributions of Richa Ghosh (62 runs) and S Meghana (53). Their partnership not only rescued the team but also propelled them to a competitive total of 158 runs, after the early dismissals of Smriti Mandhana, Sophie Devine, and Ellyse Perry.
